The AMPERE Newsletter appears quarterly and covers short topical articles written by experts in the field. Typically it also includes a profile, conference reports, advertisements, a calendar of events and news items on various aspects of radio frequency and microwave energy usage in the ISM frequency band, covering topics broadly from 1 MHz to 30 GHz, although higher frequencies have also been covered. It also highlights on promising new research developments to emanate from academe and industry.

Editor's Comments

The 8th biennial AMPERE conference on high frequency and microwave processing was staged last month at the University of Bayreuth in Germany under the chair of Professor Ms. Willert-Porada. Well attended and throughly enjoyable it will be highlighted in the next issue of the Newsletter.

In this issue I am delighted to invite Joe Longoria and Herb Michael to describe some of the developments at Dow Chemicals, a company that has a long history of experimenting with the use of microwave heating in some of its operations.

I am also very pleased that Rick Keam has accepted my invitation to give the Newsletter a brief insight into the operations of KEAM HOLDEN Associates focussing on their manufacturing and other activities in New Zealand and beyond.

Following the retirement of Dr Andrzej Krasweski from the USDA, in Georgia USA, the Newsletter pays tribute to a pioneer in the science of microwave aquametry. In this issue we also introduce a traveller's notepad describing members travel ventures in exotic places, starting with my summer's foray into Vietnam.

Finally, do browse through the AMPERE website to read the latest developments and communicate with colleagues in your sphere of activity.

Editor, Ricky Metaxas, EUG, University of Cambridge.
